Sarah Gatumu, MD, is a board-certified, accomplished adult and child psychiatrist passionate about providing highly personalized care. Dr. Gatumu founded New Direction Functional Psychiatry to serve as a mental health resource for the community of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and takes great pride in the outcomes enjoyed by those who entrust New Direction with their care.
Education has always shaped Dr. Gatumu’s journey. She earned her medical degree from the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences in Kenya. Upon arriving in the United States, Dr. Gatumu completed an internship at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York.
A residency in preventive medicine at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, followed, as well as a residency in psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Her fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry occurred at Allegheny Health Network Medical Education in Pittsburgh.
